Art Deco Style at Drumcondra Library

Art Deco Style at Drumcondra Library – a talk for Heritage Week 2013 which takes place nationally from 17th – 25th August

The three Dublin City branch libraries at Inchicore, Drumcondra, Inchicore and Ringsend opened to readers in 1937. They are modest but important examples of public buildings in the Art Deco style which marked a transition between Classicism and the Modern Movement.  This talk, by Susan Roundtree Senior Architect with Dublin City Council, will look at the architecture of Drumcondra Library with some thoughts on the Art Deco style as interpreted more generally in building design.

Susan Roundtree is an RIAI accredited Grade 1 conservation architect. Her post-graduate research includes an architectural history of Mountpleasant Square and an in-depth study of the history and use of clay brick as a building material in Ireland.
