Housing Regeneration – Ballymun, Dublin

Dublin City Council through City Architects has been building links with Singapore, a city that applies a strong design focus in urban development. City Architect Ali Grehan was invited to Singapore recently to see the impressive work being done by the Urban Redevelopment Authority and share insights about Dublin’s design approach. In addition to making a presentation to the Centre for Liveable Cities Ali did an interview for the URA’s publication Skyline, an edited version of which is published today and can be found here.

Dublin City is competing to be European Capital of Culture 2020.

The European Capital of Culture is a city designated by the European Union for a period of one calendar year. Each year, two cities from two chosen European countries are nominated as a Capital of Culture. In 2020, Ireland and Croatia have been announced as the chosen countries. The delegated city for each country will be selected by a process of open competition.

The new Liberty House building; the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, and Restoration of St Mel’s Cathedral, are among the 36 projects shortlisted for this year’s Irish Architecture Awards, which were announced this week by The Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland [RIAI]. The list also includes Rosie Hackett Bridge; Dalkey Heritage Centre & Town Hall; Athlone Community College, and the Pavilion of Light – Mardyke Gardens.

Friday 19th June sees the launch of the 5Cube Energy Pavilion at Hanover Quay at the Grand Canal Dock.

A new intriguing black glass cube is currently being installed on Hanover Quay, just beyond U2’s studios at the facing Marine School Walk opposite the Waterfront apartments. This new mysterious installation, animating the quayside is a smart energy feature. (more…)

Dublin City Council is to receive €292m funding under an announcement made yesterday. It is to be accompanied by social housing delivery targets and is expected to reduce Dublin City Council’s social housing waiting list by 21% by the end of 2017. (more…)
