A contract is currently on site for the demolition of two of the existing flat blocks, known as the Granby blocks, on the East side of Dominick Street Lower.

When the demolition works are completed, the sites on the East side of Lower Dominick Street will be cleared and ready for redevelopment as part of the Dominick Street regeneration project.

Planning Permission was granted by An Bord Pleanala in May of this year for the first phase of the regeneration scheme. A mixed use development comprising social housing over commercial units at street level and a new community facility will be built on the large site, from the corner with Parnell Street  to the new Dominick Lane on the East side of Dominick Street. Negotiations with the Department of Education, for the disposal of the residual site on the East side of Lower Dominick Street are at an advanced stage. The Department of Education have plans to construct an eight class room school.
